    Varsity Tames Lancaster Lady Tigers
    Friday, September 3, 2010
    By: Ron Watts

The Red Oak Lady Hawks traveled to Lancaster to take on the Lady Tigers in a District 15-4A match up.

The Lady Hawks early on had some difficulty adjusting to the Lady Tigers style of play and made several unforced errors which allowed the Lady Tigers to hang with them up to 14-12. With the help of some really good serving from Emmalee Smith and timely blocking from Caleah Wells, the Lady Hawks went on an 11-3 run to close out the first set 25-15.

The second set started out with precision serving by Kaycie Bird and Emmalee Smith which kept the Lady Tigers off balance and scrambling for returns. The Lady Hawks got out to a 14-5 lead and cruised on to take the second set 25-11.

In the third set the Lady Tigers got more of the same strategic serving from the Lady Hawks’ Kaycie Bird, Averi Walker and Emmalee Smith which kept the Lady Tigers out of position and struggling to return serve. The Lady Hawks jumped out to a 15-4 lead and never looked back, easily winning the third set 25-7.

With this win the Lady Hawks are 3-0 in District play and 21-7 overall.

The second and third sets were similar to the first as in both sets the score was tied at 5 early on. Then, behind great serving from Kaycie Bird, Emmalee Smith and Hunter Porter and pinpoint hitting from Morgan Watts, Caleah Wells and Lindsay Prasifka, the Lady Hawks took over. In the second set the Lady Hawks jumped out to a 16-7 lead and then went on to win 25-9. In the third set the Lady Hawks didn't turn it on until they were up 12-9.
